SOLO
In her solo program, Mareille explores the endless possibilities of the guitar as an instrument. She uses the freedom of solo playing to break down stylistic boundaries. For example, she combines fingerstyle techniques with typical jazz elements. She impresses with her innovative, independent handling of the instrument, explores diverse sound facets with great attention to detail and breathes life into the catchy melodies of her compositions, for example with harmonics, open, often unusually tuned strings or her idiosyncratic use of the tremolo lever. Technical skills are by no means a sure-fire success - the focus is always on the core of the musical message, which Mareille creates with her unmistakable sound and wraps it around with tonal variety and precision.
In doing so, she does not make herself comfortable in the feel-good zone, but rather plays with moments of surprise and experiments with sound space, atmosphere and contrasts. A loop station uses it only occasionally - rather, it uses the resulting freedom to have room for spontaneity and risk-taking. This is how she creates characteristic compositions, complex interpretations and energetic improvisations on the Stratocaster.

MAREILLE MERCK
"Mareille Merck is a highly talented guitarist and composer and I'm convinced we'll be hearing a great deal more from her in the years to come. I'll also confess, in my own practice, I'll be adopting some new sounds inspired by Merck." Simone Gubiotti, Jazz in Europe 04/21
